Here's how Alana's journey went

5/6/2025

The PARS Foundation is proud to celebrate an inspiring achievement by one of our community champions – Alana, who has officially completed her ambitious 5K a Day in May challenge.

Throughout the entire month of May, Alana laced up her running shoes and ran 5 kilometres every single day — a physical, mental, and emotional challenge that pushed her limits and raised vital funds for our Walk and Talk groups in Dunfermline.

In total, Alana ran over 150 kilometres and raised a remarkable £455, all in support of improving mental health through connection, movement, and the outdoors.

What started as a personal challenge quickly grew into something much bigger. As Alana explained:

During this challenge, I have learned so much about myself and those that are close by and in my little circle! We can achieve hard things when we put our minds to it, and it's easier done with great support beside you all the way. Even the weather was on my side!

Fitting runs around life’s commitments wasn’t easy — she ran on days filled with work, birthdays, weddings, and even during a mini cruise. But she didn’t miss a single day. Her consistency and determination spoke volumes about her resilience, and about the cause she was running for.

The biggest challenge was finding the time. I absolutely smashed my target within the first week, which I really didn't expect — I only hoped to collect £1 from each person who joined me on the runs.

Alana completed her challenge at Lochore Meadows parkrun, where she not only crossed the final finish line — she achieved a personal best time of 24 minutes and 59 seconds.

My final 5K will be one to remember. I had a goal and absolutely smashed it thanks to Jack from the United by Miles running group. He stayed with me and pushed me right to the end.

A Lasting Contribution

Thanks to Alana's efforts, £455 will be donated to support the Walk and Talk groups — an initiative that provides a safe, welcoming space for people in Dunfermline to connect, talk openly, and experience the mental health benefits of being active outdoors.

I hope it continues to give the people of Dunfermline a safe place to go and explore the outdoors.

The PARS Foundation, along with everyone who attends and benefits from the Walk and Talk groups, would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Alana — not just for the funds raised, but for being an example of community spirit and mental health advocacy in action.
